HushMouse and this website are operated by Aditya Jain, trading as Portala, a sole proprietorship in India. This page explains what the app and the website handle, and what they don't.
The HushMouse app
It works offline
HushMouse has no network code. It does not connect to the internet, has no account, and sends no analytics, crash reports or usage data to us or anyone else.
What it listens to
macOS asks you to grant HushMouse Accessibility permission. With it, the app runs a listen-only hook: it can see events but can never change, delay or block them. It uses this to notice:
- Mouse clicks. When you click, it reads the name and shortcut of the menu item or button you clicked, through the macOS Accessibility interface, so it can show you the shortcut.
- Shortcuts that use ⌘, ⌥ or ⌃. These are compared with the shortcuts it has hinted, so it knows when you've learned one.
It never records what you type. Key presses without ⌘, ⌥ or ⌃ are ignored: the app is only told that a key was pressed, not which one, and nothing is stored. While you are teaching it a new shortcut, it also hears Esc and the function keys. It does not track mouse movement; it only uses the pointer position at the moment of a click to find what you clicked and to place the hint.
What it stores, and where
Your settings, shortcut packs and stats stay on your Mac, in ~/Library/Application Support/HushMouse. Stats are counts: how many times you pressed each shortcut HushMouse taught you, how many mouse actions had a hint, and the estimated time saved per day. Delete that folder to remove everything. Nothing in it leaves your Mac unless you share a pack yourself.
This website
hushmouse.com is hosted on Cloudflare. To deliver and protect the site, Cloudflare processes technical request information such as your IP address, browser details, the page requested and the time. Cloudflare also adds a small bot-protection script to the pages and may set a security cookie as part of that.
The site's own code contains no analytics or advertising scripts and sets no cookies. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, so Google receives standard request information from your browser when a page loads.
We do not collect email addresses on this site yet. There is no sign-up form; if one is added later, this policy will be updated first.
Payments
Orders are processed by Paddle.com, our reseller and Merchant of Record. Paddle collects and processes your payment details, billing address and tax information under its own privacy policy. We never see or store your card or bank details.
To deliver your licence and help with support or refunds, we receive limited order information from Paddle, such as your name, email address, country, the order reference, the amount and the payment or refund status. We keep it while needed for that, and for as long as accounting, tax or legal rules require.
Your rights and contact
You can ask us what information we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing contact@hushmouse.com. We may ask for details that show the order or email is yours. We will correct or delete information unless we must keep it for accounting, tax or legal reasons.
